International Conferences

This page is just a record of my activity in the international seminars/conference. Usually, I come to the conference as a presenter except for the ABCDE Tokyo Conference, where I was just as a participant. The list of the conferences are as follows (from the latest to the oldest):

1. The International conference of Sustaining Growth: Economic Transition and natiral Resouces Management in East and Southeast Asia. Ho Chi Minh City, Viet Nam, 21-22 June 2007.

The venue of the conference is the Novotel Garden Plaza Saigon.
The objectives of the seminar are threefold. First, the seminar provides a forum for studies on the links between economic transition and sustainable agricultural development. Secondly, the seminar facilitates discussions on international relations in agricultural production, international trade and environmental agreements (Asia-Link- Recreate, 2007).

At this conference I presented a paper about free trade in East Asia using Global Trade and Analysis Projects (GTAP) Model and Game Theory. This is the abstract of my paper:

For this conference I would like to thank Asia-Link RECREATE who supported accomodation to me from Nagoya, Japan to Ho Chi Minh, Viet Nam and also acommodation during the short stay in Ho Chi Minh. Special thanks are also extended to  Prof. J. Wesseler from Wageningen University (the Netherlands) and Prof. N. H. Dung, University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam) who helped me and gave correction on the paper. In the process of writing this conference paper, I am indebted to Prof. Otsubo and his seminar members who gave any constructive critiques and suggestion for a better result.

2. ABCDE Tokyo Conference Annual Bank Conference on Development Economics (ABCDE), on May 29-30, 2006 at Mita House in Tokyo.

This is the ABCDE conference that was held for the first time in East Asia . The theme of the conference was “Rethinking Infrastructure for Development” and addressed several major topics related to infrastructure and growth, climate change, energy efficiency, rural development, agriculture and the implications for regional cooperation (ABCDE Conference, 2006).

The conference featured research papers on the following four topics, as well as working sessions (ABCDE Conference, 2006):
1.Infrastructure and growth
2.Infrastructure and sustainable development: climate change, clean energy, and energy efficiency
3.Rural infrastructure and agricultural development
4.Infrastructure and regional cooperation

The more complete information about the ABCDE Tokyo Conference 2006 can be found at ABCDE Conference

3. The Nippon Foundation - The Fourth API Workshop, November 29 - December 4, 2005, Shangrila Hotel, Sabah, Malaysia.

At this International Workshop I presented the paper of Free Trade in Asian Agriculture: An Economic Perspective of Thailand. This paper was the result of my field research which I did in Thailand in July - December 2004.

If you want to see the abstract, you can follow this link. Furthermore if you want my research proposal which I submitted to the Nippon Foundation-the Asian Publc Intellectual (API) Fellowships in 2004, including the full final report, you can send your requests to me (ronysalim6@yahoo.com). I would be happy to give it to you.

The API Fellowship Program is designed to stimulate the creation of a new pool of such intellectuals in the region. They aim to promote mutual learning among Asian public intellectuals and to contribute to the growth of public spaces in which effective responses to regional needs can be generated (API Fellowship, 2007).
