The Top Billionaires in Indonesia and the World

You may have already known about the top billionaires in the world. Referring to the forbes.com (5 March 2008), the top ten richest people in the world are: Warren Buffett (USD 62 billion), Helu Slim and Family (USD 60 billion), William Gates (USD 58 billion), Lakhsmi Mittal (USD 45 billion), Mukesh Ambani (USD 43 billion), Anil Ambani (USD 42 billion), Ingvar Kamrad and family (USD 31 billion), KP Singh (USD 30 billion), Oleg Deripaska (USD 28 billion) and Karl Albrecth (USD 26.5 billion).
Do you know the richest people in Indonesia? You, probably, do not know yet about the top billionaires in Indonesia. But, here are the top two billionaires in Indonesia:

1. Soeharto families (USD un-counted billion). You know who they are.

2. Urip Tri Gunawan (UTG): Rp 6 billion.

The second richest people in Indonesia, UTG, was caught dramatically by the Commision for Corruption Erradication (KPK-Komisi Pemberantasan Korupsi). He is a state attorney who has responsibility as a leader for assessing the Bank Indonesia Liquidity Fund (BLBI). BLBI is a kind of stealing national tresures which made the Indonesian economy collapse in 1998. But, now, the leader of the assessor, UTG, was bribed with USD 660,000 by the BLBI receivers . And this bribery put the UTG as the second richest man in Indonesia.

Asia Pacific Trade and Investment Review:
Thailand's Agricultural Sector and Free Trade Agreement

The Central Government has to pay attention to the distribution of the benefits from trade prior to the liberalization process and adopt policies which will make farmers more competitive and preserve the sustainability of agricultural development as a whole. The benefits of free trade should be measured first in the national context or in terms of national benefits. For those already suffering losses as a result of free trade, the Government should assist them to improve their productivity and competitiveness. While not everybody agrees that environment should be included in FTAs, it should be noted that agricultural production processes are related directly to the natural resources such as land, soil and water.

Poverty in the Developing World.
